Here’s a tip… Let’s not train our kids to walk up to people and say “Hi, I’m ______. How are you?”

Seriously, that’s pretty awkward and if the other kids don’t want to talk then their only way out of that situation is to reject your child.
We need to teach our kids to walk up to a group and hang out nearby and listen to what the group is talking about. Then our child can make a comment that expresses an opinion (in a positive way) about whatever they are talking about.
At that point, the group can either accept to ignore our child, but they are less likely to reject our child.
Also we can teach our kids to walk away if the group is not interested or positive.
This is a challenging social skill and it literally takes us a couple of sessions of training kids before they get really good at this. However, you can start chipping away at this skill at home with your child anytime you like.
Always remember that if you are taking a moment to read this, then clearly, you are a proactive parent and your child is lucky to have you. š
