Are you sick of being judged as a bad parent who lets the kids get away with everything
Yep.
We need to accept that others cannot possibly understand. Then we can let go of our anger and frustration). Seriously, they don’t understand and they won’t understand because they don’t have a child with Autism. So let’s not wish for things that are not realistic.
However, we don’t have to stay isolated.
We need other parents around us who do understand - parents who have children with Autism too. One of the most exciting things I get to do in my job of helping children who have Autism is actually connecting their parents up with each other. We end up with a parent support network that sort of informally just happens over time. You don’t need to wait until your child is doing a course to get that sort of support.
Find some great parents of kids with Autism in your school community and reach out to them. They won’t reject you because they know how you feel. Invite them for a coffee. Swap phone numbers with them. They are probably feeling isolated and misunderstood, just like you are.
People are valuable. People who understand the path we are walking and are even more valuable!
You can do this - you are braver than you realise.
