Did you already know that most children’s conversations are just a series of questions and answers?
The difference between a conversation that works and a conversation that fails is this: conversations that flow naturally are those where the topic is about a shared interest (something that both people like to talk about).
We need to teach our children that the topics of conversation need to be something that the other person wants to talk about. We can’t talk about Minecraft with everyone all day. Also, even if we were both talking about Minecraft, we need to be asking the other person plenty of questions about their experiences.
Conversations are not just for the purpose of exchanging information. Rather, conversations are an opportunity for people to share their thoughts, opinions and feelings. We do that by asking relevant questions and listening to people’s answers and by talking about topics that other people share our interest in.
Always remember that if you are taking a moment to read this, then clearly, you are a proactive parent and your child is lucky to have you. 😊
